JARED PARSONS
TEACHING / LEAD PASTOR
Jared has served as the campus director for Navigators at NYU Tandon for the past 5 years. During that time he started a campus club that has grown into a flourishing ministry that has seen students come to faith, grow in discipleship, and be developed as leaders. Jared is a gifted communicator and loves engaging people far from God, building teams, and developing leaders. For the past 4 years Jared has served as a teaching pastor at New City Church and brings a unique balance of wit and Biblical understanding to the text each time he speaks. Jared is married to Jana and they have one son, Oliver.
KRISTEN PHELPS
Children’s ministry
After growing up in farm country, North Carolina, Kristen felt God’s call to the city and has settled into living, working, and serving here since 2017. Kristen leads the New City Kids ministry and also serves on the New City teaching team. For her “day job,” Kristen has spent over a decade working in education and counseling in a variety of roles. Due to her experience and background in these areas, Kristen is able to blend her skills as a teacher, shepherd, and friend to the kids of New City. She loves applying her pedagogical talents to helping children grow in their Biblical understanding, and she aspires to one day write a comprehensive, PreK through 12th grade discipleship curriculum that encompasses deep theological truth, an understanding of the story of our world, and the value of a personal relationship with God.
Katie Lilly
WORSHIP MINISTRY
Katie has been serving with New City Church for 4 years and has been leading worship for one year. She attended the Baptist College of Florida and has a degree in Contemporary Worship Ministry. She is a full time operations manager at a hotel in midtown and is regular at a CrossFit gym in Astoria.
Jamie Tulenko
FINANCES/CHILDREN’S MINISTRY
Originally from Kentucky, Jamie moved to NYC in 2015. She began attending New City in 2018 and has been part of the leadership team in some capacity ever since. In the past she served on the welcome team and as a community group leader. Currently Jamie volunteers with the children’s ministry in addition to monitoring and maintaining New City’s bookkeeping and financials.
