New City Church is coming to a close
New City has experienced many meaningful moments over the years. There were beautiful worship services, joyful chaos at our annual community carnival, and focused care for neighbors during the early days of the COVID crisis. There were also sacred moments—watching friends and family take steps of faith and be baptized, seeing spiritual growth happen in groups and friendships, celebrating milestones together, and walking through grief as we lost members to death or said goodbye as others moved into new seasons beyond New York City.
Through it all, God was faithful.
May 3 marked yet another significant moment in the life of New City Church. It is a day none of us expected when we first began, yet one that is often part of the life cycle of churches, and especially church plants. We announced that we will be gathering for the final official service of New City Church on next Sunday, May 10. During that service we will have a time of remembrance, encouragement and prayer. If you are any where close to NYC we would invite you to join us at the Hunters Point School at 11:00 on Sunday for the unique day. Patrick, our founding pastor, and his wife Katie will be joining us in person for this gathering as well.
While the day-to-day operations of New City are coming to an end, we truly believe the work God has done through this church is not finished. We pray that the seeds planted here—faith awakened, hope restored, relationships formed, love practiced—will continue to bear fruit for generations to come.
In complete honesty, there is no single reason that has led us to this moment. From the beginning until now, countless faithful people have poured time, energy, prayer, generosity, and love into this community. This ending is not the result of a lack of faith, commitment, or effort, nor is it a story of failure. It is simply the close of a particular season of shared ministry.
And yet, the beautiful thing about the Church is that it is never confined to a place, a name, or a schedule. Families endure. Bonds remain. The Gospel continues to bring life wherever God’s people go.
Please pray for the Parsons family as they transition back into ministry on the campus of Iowa State University. Pray as well for those in our New City family who are seeking a new church home—that God would lead them to communities where they can be known, loved, and encouraged to follow Jesus. And pray for Long Island City, that the Gospel presence established through New City would continue to shape lives, bring healing, and point people to the hope found in Jesus Christ.
WORSHIP SONGS
Each Sunday in addition to our teaching time we offer an opportunity to focus our hearts and minds on God through contemporary worship music. We typically feature an acoustic driven band with multiple singers and musicians. Check out a few of our favorite songs that we often feature during our worship gatherings, and some that are specifically added to help focus throughout the week on our themes.
